Davey’s reputation and service hit the MARC

Published on 21/02/2017

Last year, specialist pool construction contractor Commercial Aquatics Australia (CAA) enlisted Davey to provide a water treatment and filtration solution for the A$38million redevelopment of Mandurah Aquatic and Recreation Centre (MARC), which has transformed a tired, over utilised swimming centre into an ultra modern community facility.

Rajeev Seth, Commercial Pool Business Development Manager at Davey says there were two key factors in Davey securing the job over three other contractors; the reputation and quality of the Davey ISOspec® pumps, and the ability to provide local support services from the Bibra Lake Regional Office.

The aquatic refurbishment consisted of an upgrade to the existing 25m indoor pool, reconstruction of a large freeform leisure pool with water playground, a brand new 50m eight lane outdoor pool with movable boom, and a 25m program pool for aqua aerobics, overflow, and other activities, plus a new spa and sauna.

Davey’s custom designed solution met the hydraulic design specification (duty point), the material specification and the overall efficiency specification issued by design engineers CAA with the majority of the pumps being Davey ISO standard close coupled motor pumps of cast iron construction with bronze impellers and featuring optional seal flushing and Dulux Armourspray® VL gloss internal coating.

“This combination has proven to be the most cost effective, long lasting specification for commercial pool circulating pumps,” says Alf Kost, Commercial Manager WA for Davey. “The filtration plant room is state-of-the-art, I haven’t seen anything close to it, it’s one of the most prestigious to date,” says Rajeev.

Wendy Cole, Supervisor Aquatic Operations, Recreation Centres, for the City of Mandurah, manages the aquatic operations of the centre and can’t fault the Davey product or service. “Davey supply the high end equipment that pools need, and they seem to be the only ones I know that do it. They really do have a good niche in the market, and they do a really good pump – it’s very reliable,” she says.  “When we call the service guys at (Davey Master Dealer) All Pumps and Waterboring, they come down really quickly and sort things out, they get the work done promptly.”

Construction on the new MARC began in April 2014 with the aquatic side opening in September 2015. The full redevelopment will be completed in May 2018 and will include show courts, gymnasiums and group studios, making MARC triple its original size. Davey are currently working with MARC on the benefits of green technology and converting their gas chlorination system to salt-water.
